What would be Google’s next step after Sidewiki?

SidewikiAfter Google released its new Sidewiki service yesterday, it’s very interesting to imagine what would be Google’s next step.  You know, it’s not a new service to let users share comments for specific web pages. Digg, Slashdot, Reddit, delicious, and other peers have been providing this for a few years.  From the release note, the key point of Sidewiki is “direct”, ie. users don’t need to submit to somewhere else to share their comments. Sidewiki allows users share comments “directly”. Doesn’t “directly” mean shortcut to other page sharing providers?

Following this thinking, Google might be doing the below “direct” things in the future:

  • - direct “vote”(digg)/”bury” for each URL at search results
  • - direct “comment” for each URL at search results
  • - direct “submit” URL/websites to Google search engine through open Google API

Googel Pagerank, tagline, submit, voteThere has been a small icon at each search results that allows you to up the item. This is very similar to “vote” or “digg” to that item. Although it’s at individual level, it’s very easy and straight forward for Google to expand it to a general “Vote”/”Bury” system. Because this will impact the rank at Google search results, so it will get much more attention from webmasters and SEO providers. The outcome is much more users and webmasters like to place buttons of Google “Vote” in order to get more “Google Juice” .  Of course, the counterpart service providers will finally shrink due to the shortcut.
