Keep your privacy offline

Recently, the famous networking website Facebook changed its policy which threatens the users’ privacy. While this seems to be an isolated case, however, it sends us strong message on how to protect our own privacy in such an information society.

Generally,we sign up a bunch of accounts at too many websites. For example, we create accounts on financial website for investing, and create another account on the other websites for emailing purpose. One month or one year later, we turned our attention to a new hot subject for one reason or another, say we like playing online game now, so we continue to create accounts, and setup another password for security purpose. We do the same things over and over again. Eventually we have created so many accounts without actually using it. So much of your personal data online without any care! (Even if you are very vigilant about the information, but it’s too long to remember the password to close your account accurately)So here is something we can do in person (we just focus on online privacy, the government and law enforcement will take care of privacy more at a law level)

1, Close your account if you won’t use it anymore, not just disabling it instead !

2, Do not create an account through your Commonly Used email address or telephone numbers which will result lots of spam or fraud as well as identity theft.

3, Take care of your personal information when you surf online, and do not sign up to unknown websites.

4, Prevent your personal information from showing up frequently in your friends network such as facebook(American),kaixin(Chinese) and xiaonei(Chinese) or something like that.

5,Remove yourself from google(a little difficult ),it means keep a low profile online ,don’t your hear about the famous saying ‘On the Internet, nobody knows you’re a dog.’

6, Abide by the first five internet survival rules .

Unfortunately, you can not find any “remove/delete myself” function at many websites. Everybody knows why they do so. Let’s hope more and more web companies are more and more open to let the users “remove/delete” themselves, export/download their data. These will bring us a more user-friendly and secure Internet.
