ChinaTelecom host 6th MNC customer meeting at Nanjing
At Oct. 30, China Telecom, a giant telecom operator of China, host the 6th meeting for its multinational company customer meeting at Nanjing, Jiangsu province, south China. Tens of their MNC customers, including Cisco, Nokia, Ford, Sony and etc. attended the meeting. I joined as well on behalf of Lenovo.
At the meeting, China Telecom introduced its C+W strategy and demonstrate its new product offereing, e.g. global eye service, video conference service, remote training platform and etc.
C+W stands for CDMA plus WiFi. After taking over CDMA from China Unicom at Oct. 1, 2008, China Telecom had realized that it’s not an easy job to promote the current CDMA services through leveraging its existing enterprise customer base. Wang Feng, the director of Network Ops. Department of HQ, China Telecom, mentioned that the quality of CDMA is by far worse than what they expected before they took over it. They have prepared a plan and a huge amount of money (roughly 12B$USD) to improve CDMA network.
In order to provide better broadband data access and coverage, China Telecom chooses WiFi as their solution. They are building thousands hotspots to enhance the coverage at office buildings, shopping malls, commercial centers at major cities. A quick note is that China Telecom doesn’t think WiMAXis a good technology for them.
