After years of rumors, the final picture of China telco re-org got announced today. It’s somewhat the same as the gossip inside the circle.
China Netcom(CNC) will be merged into China Unicom to be the new China Unicom. Meanwhile, The “C” and “G” networks of China Unicom will be splitted, while the “C” part will be merged into China Telecom. China Railcom (CRC) will be merged into China Mobile(CMCC).
The executives of the new companies are also mentioned:
- CMCC – Wang Jianzhou, Zhang Chunjiang(from CNC);
- CT – Wang Xiaochu, Shangbin(from CUC);
- CUC – Chang Xiaobing, Zuo Xunsheng(from CNC);
This re-grouping is interlocked with the 3G licenses. It’s said that the new CMCC will get TD-SCDMA, while new CUC will get WCDMA, and CT will get CDMA2000.
It’s interesting to watch back to what I summarized the evolvement of China telecommunication industry in the past 10 years.

Slower consumer spending dampened sales of personal computers in the U.S., but Lenovo barely felt it thanks to higher shipments to emerging markets.
China’s largest personal computer maker said Thursday that fourth-quarter demand grew fastest in its Europe, Middle East and Africa region, where shipments jumped 30.0% in the fourth quarter. The segment offset weak demand in the U.S. where consumers have cut back on spending, which spells trouble for U.S. tech companies that haven’t fostered strong overseas growth.
Lenovo, which bought the personal computer division of IBM (nyse: IBM – news – people ) in 2005, reported sales of $1.3 billion in its core Chinese market, an increase of 18.0% from 2007′s fourth quarter. The country’s sales accounted for 34.0% of Lenovo’s fourth-quarter sales. Read more…
The death toll of China Sichuan(Wenchuan) earthquake has reached up to 51151, while 288431 wounded, and 29328 missed.
Along with the death toll is still increasing, yesterday, at some major BBS and forums, a story is quickly spreaded out about the abuse of earthquack relief materials – the camp. It’s said some earthquake camps were found at Chengdu city areas, which should not be covered by the relief. This news made people very angry.
The government authority promised to investigate this and back to the people with a fair and transparent result.

It’s reported that HP buys EDS for 13.9B$, 25$ per share. This is the one of the largest acquisition in the industry in recent years.
EDS is the 2nd largest vendor at IT service area with a yearly revenue of 22B$, while IBM is the largest one with 54B$ yearly revenue, and HP is the third one with 17B$. After this acquisition, HP will enhance its delivery capability and competitiveness against IBM.
A 7.6 magnitude earthquake happened in Sichuan Provice at 14:35pm May 12,2008. According to latest news, the dealth toll of the earchquake at Wenchuan, Beichuan counties, Sichuan Province, China, has reached up to 9219. Premier Wen Jiabo has been to Chengdu to direct the disaster recovery activities.

I am sorry that my personal domain name was not available during some yesterday. This is because of the change of domain name service provider and domain name “redirect”.
Previously I bought “zhaol.cn” at www.net.cn about two years ago. However, I found the service there is not as good as now.cn, while its price is more expensive. So I decided to change my provider to now.cn.
Meanwhile, because I have stoped to update my previous blog at i170.com. I changed the domain “redirect” to the current “live” one – “sbin.cn”.
I know some of RSS readers might be impacted because of this change. I am really sorry for that. Please update the RSS URL accordingly.

前不久，PCI委员会公布了两则安全要求的新解释 – 关于渗透测试11.3，以及关于Web应用安全的要求6.6. McAfee的官方博客进一步讨论了这两则具体要求。
关于渗透测试，PCI并不要求某些具体的人员或者厂商做安全扫描或测试，内部人员或者其他有能力的资源都可以，至少每年一次。在范围上，与持卡人数据有网络连接的所有信息系统都在测试范围。
