MSSP Gartner Magic Quadrant
Tom Olzak (Director, Information Security) Posted 8/22/2007

Gartner's new Managed Security Services Provider (MSSP) Magic Quandrant is out. It's updated as of 1 Aug 2007. The complete description of selection criteria and vendor analysis is found in Magic Quadrant for MSSPs, North America, 1H07, Gartner ID: G00149649.

What I find interesting is emergence of several new members of the magic quadrant. Once the almost sole domain of VeriSign, the leaders/visionaries area includes some big hitters, such as AT&T and IBM (ISS).

Two MSSPs, located just south of the magic quadrant, were recently in to discuss their offerings. Cybertrust--now part of Verizon--and Solutionary were impressive in their approach. Unlike most MSSPs with which we met, these organizations were "risk focused". In other words, they helped their customers manage security resources based on business risk rather than deviation from best practice. This was a refreshing change from the norm.

One vendor we are actually using does not show up anywhere on the Gartner radar--CentraComm. CentraComm is a very small company located in Findlay, Ohio, but their small size is deceiving. Their expertise in everything Juniper has made them indispensable to many companies--both large and small.
