Orkut, Gmail, WordPress的邀请 Orkut是Google的社区交友网络, Gmail是大家喜欢的、越来越流行的大邮箱,Wordpress是新兴的免费个人BLog站点。希望获得邀请的朋友请留下邮件地址和称谓。 Orkut和Gmail的邀请现在网络上很容易获得,基本上可以认为无限制发送。可是这个Wordpress.com上的邀请就稀缺了。我也只有一个,这要看哪位的blog想法更能够打动人了。

Identifying P2P users using traffic analysis” is a good article by Yiming Gong published at securityfocus infocus column.

With the emergence of Napster in the fall of 1999, peer to peer (P2P) applications and their user base have grown rapidly in the Internet community. With the popularity of P2P and the bandwidth it consume, there is a growing need to identify P2P users within the network traffic.

 while we can find similar idea at the paper named “Transport Layer Identification of P2P Traffic”, bye Thomas Karagiannis and etc. this paper help advance the idea and methodology there.  It’s not reasonable to connent “identifying” with “blocking P2P at China”, just because Yiming from China talked about “Identifying of P2P traffic”. For those telco operators, “identifying” can enable telco operators bill P2P traffic precisely so as to launch more telecom service packages to the market. Only under support from network service providers, P2P applications obtain a healthy environment to develop.

China Security Market Entering Warring States

In recent days I went to visit and talk with some friends at Venustech, Nsfocus, Topsec, iS-One, BOCO, Lenovo Security, Huawei, which are big-fish players at china domestic security market. I found they are by far more mature than the exciting “gold rush” age – 2000, not only the products and services, but also the management idea and marketing strategy.

After a few years of dramastic competing against to each other, while some pioneers has expired their security business, the above survivors, though with missteps and high people turn over, are dornimating the security market and trend. Some of them are branches of public listing company, while some of them are around the corner of IPO. Each of them has its own niche customer base and competitive advantages. No company can monopoly or control a whole industry or territory.

Venustech: Strong relationship with government and product selling at e-Gov market. Recently it increased its products line by launching of a series of firewalls developed together with Horbournetworks. Venustech is on its way to IPO.

Nsfocus: Famous for its security technical experts and vulnerablity discovery.

Topsec: The first security company at China with firewall products. After a few years of “bourgeois” performance at the arena, Topsec began to introduce venturing capital from SoftBank and OEM an IDS products from Korea in order to build one more complete “total solution”. TNA (Trusted Network Arch) has been its marketing security model. Topsec is on its way to IPO.

iS-One: The leader of security market before 2003, where I worked as Chief Strategy Officer during 2000-2003, founded the R&D department and lead the team to develop a series of firewall/IDS products, named as LinkTrust series. In fact, at around the late 2000, a research project targeted at security management platform was kicked off, while a three-in-one (firewall, IDS, and anti-virus) roadmap was defined with a high expectation. Regardless what happened thereafter, I am proud of the vision to security technology trend.

BOCO: A strong system integrator at telecom industry. Its security division is penetrating into more and more existing customers of its network management solutions.

Lenovo Security: Security division was splitted from Lenovo group at the first half of this year.

Huawei: A telecom giant and will-be dorminator of security market.

Skype signs VoIP JV in China – Global empire grows

Tom Online has been helping Skype into many of Chinese users, however, it can not help Skype make money from it, due to the limitation of telecom license problem. Tom Online doesn’t have the license required to deploy VoIP business at China. See my comment “Skype Road to China“.

Skype is looking to make inroads into the potentially lucrative Chinese market after inking a joint venture (JV) agreement with wireless internet operator TOM Online.

The two companies are already buddies having forged an agreement to develop a simplified Chinese version of Skype’s internet telephony software. Ten months on and the software has attracted 3.4m registered users and Skype reckons now is the right time to plug the service to TOM’s 70m punters.

Under the deal TOM and Skype (split 51 per cent and 49 per cent respectively) will continue to develop Skype’s VoIP software for the Chinese market and do more to flog it to users.

Said Skype chief exec Niklas Zennstrom: “By uniting Skype’s market-leading global Internet communications platform with TOM Online’s wireless leadership and understanding of the needs of Chinese market we believe we have a powerful mix of skills in place to bring the Skype experience to millions of Internet users.”

China is the world’s largest mobile phone market by users with more than 360m subscribers. The number of net users is also expanding rapidly and is expected to hit around 150m by 2007, according to research from IDC.

Last week Skype signed its first agreement with a mobile telecoms operator – Germany’s E-Plus – taking its low-cost services beyond the desktop and on the road. ®
